Handmade Friday Feature- HilaryCaroline

The winner of the $25 gift certificate to HilaryCaroline Jewelry is...

Congratulations! I have sent your contact info to Hilary
and she will contact you about the prize.
Enjoy your new jewelry!
**********************

Today's featured shop is hilarycaroline, a shop that offers a fun mix of vintage, feminine and nature inspired jewelry.

The Frosted Button:
When did you first become interested in making jewelry?

HilaryCaroline:
I have been into all kinds of crafts from basically as soon as I had any hand eye co-ordination. I dabbled in everything from clay to painting to soap making and candle making to knitting and of course jewelry. I always loved going to craft stores with my mom and finding my next favorite hobby. Though I dabbled in everything, I kept coming back to jewelry design. I became more serious about it once I got to college, and designed on and off whenever I had free time, although mostly just for my own personal use as I wasn’t sure how or if I would be able to sell the designs. Then in the summer of 2008, I discovered Etsy, and a light bulb went off in my head that I could finally have a market to sell my designs. Hence, Hilary Caroline Jewelry was born, and I’ve been loving it ever since!

The Frosted Button:
What is your favorite item to make (necklace, earrings, etc)?

Hilary Caroline:
I particularly love working with brides to design jewelry for their bridal parties - I have worked with over a dozen brides to help them create the perfect jewelry for their big day. There is something particularly special about knowing my jewelry is being worn on one of the most important and memorable days of someone’s life. To learn more about my custom bridal party work, you can view this listing: Customized Bridal Party Jewelry

The Frosted Button:
Do you have a best seller in your shop?

HilaryCaroline:
Ever since my Garden Cuff bracelet (listed here) was featured in the Summer 2010 issue of Get Married magazine, it has been an incredibly popular design. I had so many orders for that bracelet as soon as it hit press that I struggled to stay in stock!

The Frosted Button:
What inspires your designs?

HilaryCaroline:
I’m mostly inspired by colors and color combinations. Certain colors will call out to me and I’ll design pieces around them. It's always dangerous for me to start browsing through supplies shops because I will find myself attracted to so many colors and materials that it becomes idea overload! It can be difficult to narrow it down to what is realistic for me to make.

The Frosted Button:
What Etsy shops inspire you?

HilaryCaroline:
Etsy is an absolutely amazing community, and at one time or another I’ve been inspired by hundreds of various Etsy designers! I love just browsing around Etsy and seeing all the amazing talent, of not only jewelry but also clothing, accessories, home decor, edibles and art.

The Frosted Button:
Do you have some helpful tips to share with others who have their own handmade business?

HilaryCaroline:
I would say that it is as much about marketing your product as the product itself. You need great pictures, great descriptions, and great customer service to back up your amazing products. The products themselves won’t stand on their own, all the components need to be there for you to be successful! And make sure you are pricing your work correctly and getting the price you deserve for you work. Don’t sell yourself short just because you think it will bring more sales – you will hurt yourself in the long run.

Thank you for allow me to feature your lovely shop!

The Perfect Pairing

Who doesn't love the perfect pairing of peanut butter and chocolate??
The creamy, slightly salty peanut butter goes so well with
rich, decadent chocolate.
Because I am in the mood for a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie,
I decide to hop on over to Etsy to find some delectable
little treats to share with you.

     {via}

Yum.

Now a post about peanut butter and chocolate can't be finished
until I share a recipe for peanut butter chocolate chip cookies.
These are seriously really good.
 I have been know to each 3 or 4( maybe more? I lost count) at a time.
Yes, they are that good.
I recently received a compliment on my cookies that made my day.
The comment on these little guys? "Out-of-this-world- amazing".
That, my friends, is one of the best compliments I have received
on my cooking. It made me smile.

~Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies~

1 3/4 cup flour
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt

Sift above ingredients together.

1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup white sugar*
1/2 cup brown sugar*
1 egg
1 t. vanilla
2 T. milk

Cream above ingredients together.
 Slowly blend in dry ingredients
until just mixed.

Bake at 370 degrees for 10 minutes, or until edges are just barely brown.
Take cookies out of the oven and let them sit for a minute or two on the baking sheet
before transferring to a cooling rack,

Makes approx. 3 dozen cookies

* I have reduced both sugars to 1/3 cup and you don't even notice the difference.
I usually put only 1/3 cup (or even slightly less) because otherwise they are
a very sweet cookie.

Very easy, and very delicious.

Enjoy!

SoftLips Product Review + Giveaway

**Softlips Giveaway Winner**

The winner of the Softlips giveaway is.....

ElfRenee!

Congratulations! I have contacted you via e-mail
about receiving your prize.

Thank you to all who entered! I have more product reviews
and giveaways coming, so be watching for those in mid-June.

*************************************************

Earlier this month I was contacted by Softlips to do a
product review for their lip balm.
I absolutely love anything to do with bath & beauty products,
so I was more than willing to do the review!
{My Softlips lip balm}

The company kindly sent me 6 packs of their SPF 20 lip balm
to review on my blog.
They came in Strawberry, Raspberry, Wildberry, Vanilla,
Mint and Cherry scent.
After taking a quick picture of them, I opened
up the Strawberry lip balm to try. Mmm! It smelled
really good! My other favorite scents were the Cherry
and Vanilla (which I thought smelled like a sugar cookie!)
The lip balm went on very smoothly, and felt good on my lips.
I love the fact that they each have SPF 20 in them, which helps
protect my lips from the hot summer sun.
The size is really convenient for putting in your purse
or giving as a gift, which I plan to do with several of them.

Softlips lip balm comes in many other "delicious" scents,
including Passion Fruit, Coconut Cream, Peach Mango,
 and Sugar and Spice, to name a few.
They also offer lip tints, organic lip balms and lip gloss.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For today's giveaway, Softlips is giving away the same
set of lip balms that I received to one U.S. reader!
Here's how to enter:
Handmade Friday Feature- Lollidreams
 ~Special Announcement~
Some of you may have noticed that Blogger was down for
a few days and because of that, I was unable to post my usually Handmade
Friday Feature and you were unable to enter any of my giveaways.
Because of this, I am extending The Elephant Garden giveaway until
this Tuesday, May 17. The winner will be announced
later that day or the next day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 It has been quite some time since I featured a shop that sells
baked goods here on my blog.
So when I cam across a delicious little shop called lollidreams,
I knew that it would be a perfect shop to feature.

The Frosted Button:
When did you first become interested in baking?

Lollidreams:
I've always loved baking and cooking. My Mom's a great cook, and I learned a lot from her.

The Frosted Button:
 What is your favorite cake truffle to make?

Lollidreams:
Making the cake truffles is pretty much the same process for all of them. My favorite to EAT is probably the Double Chocolate Fudgy Cake Truffles. They're all really good though.

The Frosted Button:
Do you have a best seller?

Lollidreams:
The Red Velvet is by far my best seller. People go crazy for Red Velvet cake.

The Frosted Button:
What is your favorite thing about selling online?

Lollidreams:
I like selling online because I don't have as much overhead cost as I would have if I had a brick and mortar store. I still get to interact with customers, and I've "met" a lot of really nice people online.

The Frosted Button:
What are some tips you can share with others who have their own handmade/home business?

Lollideams:
Hang in there, and be passionate about what you're doing. If you're selling on Etsy, my best advice is relist, relist, relist. My sales are directly connected to how often I list or relist items in my shop.
The Frosted Button:
What Etsy shops inspire you?

Lollidreams:
As far as food items go, I love nikid, haveitconfections, SweetAmbs and WhimsyandSpice.
 I'm inspired by their delicious creations and their success. I am an artist too, so I love lots of the artistic Etsy shops. I love chickenlipsfolkart, tmlCREATIONS, catherinereece, studiokmo, thesnippets, BlackBaroque, sarahogren, and so many others I just can't list them all. Can you tell I love Etsy?

~ Special Offer~
Now through June 30th you can receive 20% off any item purchased
at lollidreams using the coupon code "frostedbutton"!

Anyone want some truffles? =)

Thank you for sharing your yummy shop with us!

Handmade Friday Feature - The Elephant Garden

The Frosted Button:
When did you first begin crafting?

The Elephant Garden:
 I started crafting when I was about 12 years old. I fell in love with making necklaces and bracelets. I mainly stuck to beading. I had thousand of beads organized in a tool box, and one day, I dropped it. I spent hours picking them up, trying to organize them, but they were hopelessly scattered and full of dirt and pet hair. Shortly after that I stopped doing it and began to pursue other things. For the past two years I have been investing myself in Photography and selling fine art prints. However in January I was on Etsy and I came across a Jewelry supply shop, and somewhere inside of me the creative crafter came alive again, and I haven't looked back since.

The Frosted Button:
What is your favorite item to make?

The Elephant Garden:
It is a tie between two items. I love to make my letter pendants. While I am making them, I often try and guess what the person's name might be, or who they are giving it to. My other favorite item to make is the Wish Keeper Necklace. So many of us have wishes that we are afraid to say out loud. This gives a person a way of keeping that wish to themselves, being able to hold it in their hands, and near their heart.

The Frosted Button:
What are you best sellers?

The Elephant Garden:
 My best sellers would have to be my rose rings on the black filigree base. They are one of my personal favorites as well, and also very fun to make.

The Frosted Button:
What inspires your designs?

TheElephantGarden:
 Mainly, my grandmother. Growing up my grandmother always loved to garden. When I was a bit older, she came to live with us, and built a beautiful garden in our yard. I would see her out there all day long, digging, planting, nurturing. Often when I see a certain type of flower cabochon, it reminds me of her garden.

The Frosted Button:
What are some tips you would like to share with other who have their own handmade business?

TheElephantGarden:
 My tip would be to find something that you love to do, and stick with it. Don't be discouraged if after a week, or a month, your shop isn't going anywhere. It takes time to build up your products, your photos and your shop. After you make that first sale, you will make another, and more will come, you just have to not give up.
