The Frosted Button:
What prompted you to sell handmade?
jFrancesDesign:
I started selling my jewelry a few months after I relocated to Iowa. I had been making jewelry for almost ten years, and my friends encouraged me to start an Etsy store. Learning how to run a handmade business has been both a fun and frustrating process. I'm continuously trying to learn more about it.
The Frosted Button:
What is your favorite thing to make?
jFancesDesigns:
y favorite items to make are hand-forged silver and/or copper necklaces that incorporated semi-precious stones. I also really like working with brides on creating custom pieces for them and their bridesmaids.
The Frosted Button:
What inspires your designs?
I am constantly inspired by everything around me, and I think that's the best part of being a designer (I'm also studying interior design). Most of the time, I buy my materials without knowing how I intend to use them. When I see all of the beads together, I'm often inspired as to how to combine them. Right now, I'm really enjoying using vintage beads in rustic sterling and copper bracelets and earrings. I like the rich, old glass combined with hammered, slightly imperfect links and clasps. It's a little different than simply using vintage beads in vintage style designs, which is something I also enjoy doing.
The Frosted Button:
How long have you been crafting?
jFrancesDesign:
I've been crafting for as long as I can remember, literally. I was blessed to have a very creative babysitter during my pre-school years, and she introduced me to many different crafts that she herself did, like needlepoint and painting on porcelain, and that she made us for me and her daughter to do. When I was in grade school, I loved weaving scarves on a plastic loom and making pinch pots out of clay. I also took weekly lessons in water color and oil painting throughout middle school and high school.
Thank you so much for sharing your shop with us!
